The word “χαρά” (chará) is Greek and means “joy.” It is not merely a passing joy, but a deep, steadfast, supernatural joy that remains even in the midst of trials. It does not depend on circumstances, nor on everything going well. It is the result of knowing to whom you belong, of living with the certainty that you are accompanied, loved and sustained by God every day.
This joy cannot be manufactured. It is a fruit of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22), and it is born when we walk close to God, even when there are tears, tiredness or pain.
